Community Christmas Lunch - Delivered!

Updated: Jul 3, 2022

Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings - delivered with a smile!

The rapidly changing Rate of Covid infections meant that a Community Christmas Lunch in-person get-together had to be ruled out this year. However, Ashburton's amazing community pulled together to safely deliver a Christmas lunch of Turkey and all the trimmings to all our guests at their homes.

Our Brownie helpers loved their Portreeve Patches!

Preparations began on Christmas Eve and we had two fantastic Helpers from Brownies and Rainbows who worked really hard and earned a well deserved Portreeve's Patch for supporting our community. They set out and filled the delivery bags and wrote Christmas cards to all our guests, whilst we started preparing the food.

Just some of the items supplied by our local shops!

Thanks to our local independent businesses!

Our local independent businesses showed us once again why it pays to support our local shops. Thanks go to Dartmoor Butchers and Ellen Tapp, Ashburton Deli, Tidballs, Ella's Bakery and Mark Burley who all generously supported us with supplies for the lunch and gave us helpful advice.

In spite of the horrendous weather, Mike Lowrey, Nick Laity and the ‘Football Dads’ arrived bang on time at 12:30, wearing smiles and Christmas jumpers and hats, to make sure everyone got their lunch as quickly as possible.

Thank you to all those who offered to give up part of their Christmas to support our community!

Karen, Nick, Helen and I would also like to thank everyone that supported us in other ways, making donations, preparing food or offering advice. Many people offered to give up part of their Christmas to support their community. Sadly we had to decline help from most in order to keep the number of contacts as low as possible given the current situation, but we'd like to thank you all for your offer of support - you know who you are!

What a wonderfully supportive community we live in! With luck, and a little support, we will all have a proper get-together next Christmas!
